Thegye Summer Writing Contest

Welcome to the first Thegye Summer Writing Contest!

Throughout the month of July, Thegye will be holding two writing contests on the forums and NationStates. Below you can find more information about the contests and how they will be done. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Bassiliya.
If you haven't already, make sure to join the regional forums.

HOW IT WORKS

1. To begin, you will need to register for the contest on the forums in the appropriate topic here: https://thegye.createaforum.com/general-discussion/summer-writing-contest-registrations-open-now/

2. Once you have registered, you will need to read the contest rules below and craft a story using the theme provided.

3. Post a link to your story dispatch in the appropriate topic here: https://thegye.createaforum.com/general-discussion/summer-story-contest-submissions/

4. Peruse your fellow contestant's stories and leave nice comments!

5. After the two weeks is up, your score will be posted along with the rest of the contestants.

RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

Below are a couple of ground rules and some guidelines on how things will be done.

  • Stories will not be longer than 1500 words.
  • Stories will be posted in a dispatch. The category will be Meta: Reference.
  • Stories may not contain any strong profanity, inappropriate content, or excessive violence.
  • A contestant will be permitted to submit more than one story, but only one of them will be judged. For the sake of simplicity, the first submission by any contestant will be the one judged.
  • Stories may not be fanfiction.
  • Story dispatches may not contain crazy fonts, colors, or sizes. Please use the default size and font.
  • All stories will be submitted between July 1 at 001 EST and July 14 at 2359 EST.
In addition to the rules above, there is some theme and scoring information below.

  • Stories will be graded on a 1-10 scale, 10 being the best and 1 being the worst. Each story will be scored out of three categories: Content, Creativity, and Style.  The maximum score is 35, with 5 extra points added for theme.
  • Stories will adhere to a particular theme. The theme will be provided. Stories that include elements of the theme will receive extra points, up to five points.
  • Content will be scored on the flow and overall plot of your short story. If your story makes sense and flows well, you will receive more points. The content portion also includes how entertaining and engaging your story is.
  • Creativity will be scored on how interesting and unique your characters, plot, and storyline are. You may use elements of the theme to assist you in this.
  • Style will be scored on your use of the English language, your grammar, and overall writing technique.
THEME

The first contest's theme will be: SUMMER. Since we are in the lovely summer months, the first contest will have a summer theme. Common summer motifs are sunshine, beach days, pools, picnics, and long journeys. However, you are highly encouraged to get creative with the theme and weave it into your story for extra points!
